Crow Museum of Asian Art of the University of Texas at Dallas

The Crow family started collecting Asian art in the 1960s. Their collections include Chinese jades, classical art from Asia, and contemporary works. In the past, the collection was housed in a building in the Dallas Arts District. However, plans have been made to relocate the museum to a larger campus.

After more than three decades of development, the Crow Collection is finally moving to its new home on the UT Dallas campus. The museum will be located in a 12-acre cultural district on the southeastern corner of the campus. This campus will eventually include two art museums. As part of this plan, the Crow Museum of Asian Art is donating its collection to the University of Texas at Dallas.

As part of the donation, the Crow Museum of Asian Art will have a $23 million endowment. Upon completion of this project, the Crow Museum of Asian Art will have the opportunity to exhibit more than 1,000 works of art. Most of the collection will be displayed at this location.

Atheneum is a 12-acre cultural district on the UT Dallas campus. Eventually, the complex will include a 600-seat concert hall, a performing arts venue, a library, and a traditional Latin American arts museum. These facilities are expected to be completed in less than five years.

Crow Museum of Asian Art is located at 2010 Flora St., about 1.2 miles from the city. This location is in close proximity to the Trammell Crow Center, a building that stands 686 feet tall and is one of the tallest buildings in Dallas. Both the Trammell Crow Center and the Atheneum are part of a larger university complex that will include shared spaces for exhibitions, a library, and a performance hall.

The Crow Museum of Asian Art is free to the public. They are open for tours and feature traveling exhibitions. There are three galleries on site, which include paintings and sculptures. Those who visit the museum may see artworks from China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. A variety of architectural pieces from India are also included in the museum's permanent collection.

The Trammell and Margaret Crow Museum of Asian Art has been in its current downtown location for 20 years. During that time, the collection has undergone major expansion. Many of the collections have been acquired through auction houses and major collectors. For example, the 6-foot Ming-dynasty seated Vairocana Buddha is part of the collection. Other highlights of the museum's collection include the 18th-century Qing dynasty Jade Mountain, as well as a wide range of ancient and contemporary Asian art.
