The Dallas Children's Aquarium was originally built during the Texas Centennial Exposition in 1936. In 2010, the facility underwent a $8 million renovation. There are now several new exhibits to see, including one showcasing Bonnethead Sharks. These sharks, which grow to about two feet long, are native to the Atlantic Ocean. They look similar to the smaller Hammerhead sharks.
In addition to the new exhibits, the aquarium also hosts a variety of educational programs and events. Children can meet and feed sharks, crabs, and jellyfish. They can watch fish swim in the pools, color their own fish, or release them into the ocean. Additionally, they can help the archer fish by spit streams of water to knock food out of the sky.
Visitors can also take a field trip to the Aquarium and experience a real-life adventure. There are a variety of different programs to choose from, including summer day camps, winter day camps, overnight parties, and more. All of the activities are tailored to bring out the child in every guest.
One of the highlights of the Dallas Children's Aquarium is the Sting Ray Bay. This is a unique attraction because visitors can touch, feed, and pet cownose and Bonnethead sharks. Athena, an intelligent octopus, is also located here. She will even play with the puzzles that guests can help her with.
There are also several interactive zones to explore. One such zone is the Greatest Hits of the Sea, which is filled with thousands of marine animals. Eels, sea urchins, sting rays, and more are just a few of the creatures that can be seen. To top it all off, the Aquarium boasts the first and only mining sluice in the metroplex.
